I love that we live in a beautiful Universe.  This is the Serenity Nebula. I wish we could all be a little more kind so our earth life could be a little more beautiful.  Thank goodness for good friends who make me look outward in ways to think and help others.  My friend Donna has given a challenge every week for 22 weeks to look outside ourselves.  It is a "Keep Calm and Serve On."  It has changed my life and hopefully I am looking for ways to help and serve others on a more regular basis.  We have to email her at the end of each week and report, then Donna posts them on an email to everyone who is interested in the challenge.  We read and cheer each other on. Thanks Donna for making my world a more beautiful place.

I believe the Savior of the World is Jesus Christ.  We need his love and example of doing good to others in this world now more than ever.  My wish for you at this Christmas is you will have peace and harmony in your homes and neighborhoods and that it will spread to others around the world.

A couple of years ago my friend Donna and I were out and about taking pictures of interesting things in the country.
I looked back through my posts and couldn't find that I used some of these photos....if I did, sorry you have to look at them again.
Some of these are pieces of farm machinery or things stacked up in a farmers yard that caught my eye.
I loved the juxtaposition of this yellow sign on that old telephone pole.  I think I did show this before.
Something about this old tattered shed was interesting, the door was my favorite part.  Donna and I are headed out again in a week or two to find more interesting things to photograph during this Fall season.

When people say " I read it on Pinterest" it is almost like it is from the Bible and we should take it for the truth. So when I read that if you smear your your eye lashes at night with Vaseline your lashes would be thicker and longer.  I thought, "What?"  So, since I use Vaseline on my lips anyway, and an eye cream at night, I thought what could it hurt?  Well, I am here to tell you after a few days my lashes don't look like the ones in this picture, but they are thicker and fuller.  So this time Pinterest wins.

I really like living in a neighborhood where I can see my neighbors house lights and see their children playing.  Especially in my current neighborhood, no one has fences, the children run from one place to another.  I like it, it seems like a park where everyone plays.(My son and brother hate it.) I like being close to town, and places where there are sidewalks to walk on.  But sometimes, I think a little house in the country on a small parcel of land with a path leading to the back like the one above would be nice....with a little garden shed out back....trees all around.....a place for a cat to roam.....places for my grandchildren to explore.  My friend Bonnie has a place like that, down a little country lane.  My other friend Lora has one too, her's off a side country road.  Perhaps I could find a place like that to retire.

My little grandson will be 4, so amazing where the time goes.  All of the grandchildren when turning 4 have gotten a twin sized quilt.  So far, 5 down, 2 to go and perhaps someday a few more. The pattern for this quilt is called, Those Crazy Kids by The Buggy Barn.  The blocks were really fast. I thought about how long before these little ones grow out of their "4 year old quilt" and decided that by the time my current little guy turns 4 my oldest one will be 12 and probably need a new quilt.....then maybe one for graduation and of course we will start on marriages....SO!  I have a lot of years ahead to make quilts.  Hurray!  I was afraid I would run out of people who need quilts.

The best part of making a quilt for someone else is that I think about them the entire time I work on it, not just my grandchildren, but for my kids or others too.  I am blessed to have a talent that I enjoy and hopefully it brings joy to others as well.

You and I know this as a hexagon.
My grand daughter was at a pre-school screening.  The teacher showed her different shapes and asked what each one was.  (None were a hexagon.)  When she was shown a rectangle she squished up her brow and thought really hard, then suddenly burst out,

"It's a mex -a-gon."
Oh the joys of youth!

Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free To Wear Sunscreen

I heard this 20 years ago and loved it.  My favorite part is, 'don't read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.'

These are my absolute favorite brownies.  They are so moist and I like them best warm out of the oven...with no frosting.  Yes, that is my taste sample from the corner, fresh out of the oven....I can't take it to the church social without tasting it can I?

Zucchini Brownies
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1 1/2 c. white sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
2 cups shredded zucchini

Preheat oven to 350. Spray 9 x 13 pan, or grease and flour
Mix oil, sugar, egg and vanilla together, add flour and cocoa, baking soda and salt.  Mix well. Fold in zucchini and spread in pan.
Bake 20-30 minutes till toothpick comes out clean.  I used a large cookie sheet and baked  15 minutes.

6 TB unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Melt butter and add cocoa, stir and let set to cool.  When cool, mix in sugar and vanilla.  It is a thin frosting.  Frost brownies when they are cool.

It's one of those mornings.....the air is "pre-autumn crisp" and I need something hearty for breakfast.  Thank goodness I have some blueberries, (I could have used huckleberries I have a few of those.)
I love this whole wheat pancake mix from my friend Beth Pocock Shirley.  I think you will too!

1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/3 cup milk
2 eggs
3 TB brown sugar
3 TB oil
1 TB baking powder
pinch of salt

I like to eat a few hot out of the pan with just butter, like a piece of toast, then a few with berries and maple syrup.  Just right for this kind of morning.

Butterflies don't know the color of their wings but human eyes know how beautiful they are.
Likewise you don't know how good you are, but others can see that you are special.

60's to the 70's?

I remember in the 60's our kitchen having these aqua colors....our living room furniture was brown.  Back then, decorating was not the "THING" to do, people were just happy to be getting by with jobs, starting families and moving to the "burbs." Then when the 70's came along....
The colors started into the oranges, gold and green.....remember (those of you who are old enough) the harvest gold and green appliances?  When my husband and I bought our first house in the early 80's, it still had orange counter tops and carpet from the 70's. I think it even had a harvest gold stove.  I hope we don't go back to those colors, I may have to be stuck in a 2012 time warp with aqua and cream because I did EVERYTHING possible to get rid of  that orange back then. (Just between you and me and blog land, I decided not to sweep or clean up spills on the orange kitchen carpet in hopes it would get so bad that we would have to replace it....however, after a few weeks I couldn't stand it and had to vacuum! We had it 8 years...yes 8!  I still remember how happy I was to get wood floors!

I found this GREAT idea on Pintrest for Barbie house using binders.  Kendra was so kind to let me show you.  Check out her blog she gives you all the details.
What a fantastic idea especially if you are limited on space! Plus if you want to change the don't have a lot invested so you can switch them out!  LOVE IT!
I also loved her birthday acts of kindness here, you will too!

I now have an Author's profile on
I wanted to re-show you some of the pictures featuring my latest book.  Pretty Petals.
Box of newly published books!
This is my quilt, Pretty Petals hanging at the International Quilt Market in Kansas City, MO
May 2012, shown from my previous blog post.
This is the Kaleidoscope page from my is my favorite page.  It shows how the blocks from the Pretty Petals quilt can be sewing together to create a beautiful Kaleidoscope quilt. You may be thinking..."Wow, that is a lot of applique."  But there are some small projects in the book for those of you who want to give applique a try.  Thanks everyone for your love and support.  ~~Sheri

We had all 7 grandchildren here last week....
and I didn't get a photo of them all never entered my mind.
Monday they were in and out of the swimming pool, running around the yard, playing inside and out. It was the BEST day EVER!  I loved every minute of it!
All three of my own children with their spouse's were together on the 4th and did I think to get a picture of us all together?  NO!  Thank goodness they live close, so next time we can think about a photo!

It is so fun to see how people interpret patterns.  Pam Bell made this Black & White with red wool dots version of Ruby Red Dots.  Here is a little information about her:
I am a real estate Broker and I live in Aspen Lakes outside of Sisters, OR. I move here 7 years ago from the valley and started quilting about 3 years ago.  This was my first big applique quilt.   I had taken a class on how to do applique and made a small table runner but this winter when I was laid up from an injury, I decided to take this on and black & white became the theme with the wool red dots!  It was a labor of love and saved my sanity as the snow fell!  I had it quilted at BJ's in Bend.  The back of the quilt is black with red dots, it is as cute as can be!  I just took it down for the quilt show yesterday, my first entry! Thanks for such a fun pattern!
Thanks Pam for sharing!

What is it about a lamp that I like so much?  I don't know, but I find myself over the years REALLY liking lamps.  When I saw this brown goose neck at a yard sale....for $.50....I couldn't resist.  The cord was all frayed and the guy didn't even know if it worked...but for $.50 I couldn't go wrong.  My husband can "jimmy" just about anything, so I knew if it just needed a cord we could handle it! brown extension cord and a few twists and turns later....the thing works! The base is cast iron so if you "hucked" it at someone you could really hurt them, (not that I intend to hurt someone!)So now is sits lighting my cutting table....and it looks so GREAT!  I had intended on painting it aqua but for now, it looks nice brown!

When my oldest grandchild turned 4 she was getting a "big girl bed" so I made her a twin sized quilt.  It seems since then, I have made all the other grandchildren a twin sized quilt when they turned 4 years old.
My son-in-law was fussing about looking for a quilt for my granddaughter's bed and said, "Can't your mom make a real sized quilt?" because all this granddaughter had were throw size quilts....until now!  This one has flannel on the back and is so PINK AND GIRLY!!!

This is what you get when you start painting a Kleenex box blue.
Or pink......
A Kleenex box monster....with spike hair, a long tongue, three eyes with eye lashes.
Or one with a short tongue, toilet paper roll arms and two eyes with eye lashes. What a fun day we had.

I feel like I have been out of the country for a month!  Since I went to Kansas City to the International Quilt market I have been so busy with family parties, running family to Wyoming to work on a Horse Ranch for the summer....tending grandchildren every week......(I would just about rather tend grandchildren than anything,) but in the meantime, I didn't get to post the picture of my quilt hanging in the Kansas City Star booth.  I actually didn't even get a good photo, so this is from Kimber's blog. Check out all the pretty quilts and booths at her blog.  If you want to see more of my Pretty Petals book, look here, and here at past posts. My book has been well received...thank you everyone for your support!  New photos of my latest projects to come soon!!!

Remember a few posts ago I showed you the Tisket a Tasket quilt by Lynda? Here it is quilted and bound laying bunched up on the sewing room floor....(so I could be most of the quilt in the picture)
I love the quilting my friend LeAnn did.
I like to have the wool quilted on.
She did some fun designs on the wool.

I had one flower left over and couldn't throw it away, so it is a lone flower on the back...poor thing, maybe I should have put a few more so it could be a little time!
